The Advantages Of Solexx Panels

May 31st, 2006 by scott

There are many advantages to using Solexx panels in your greenhouse.

Solexx panels are specially formulated using a polyethylene blend.  This makes Solexx panels quite a bit more flexible than polycarbonate panels and they can be screwed onto existing greenhouse frames.

Solexx panels are available in 4’X8’ or 4’X12’ sheets.  The Solexx panels are either 3.5 or 5mm thick.  You can also order Solexx covering in continuous rolls up to 1000 feet and this allows you to cover almost any structure.

Solexx panels transmit 70-75% of all available light.  Even though most plants only need 40% light to grow, 70-80% available light is the optimal growing condition.  If it is cloudy you won’t need to worry because when you use Solexx panels your greenhouse will have a nice, soft glow.

Solexx panels diffuse the light evenly throughout the greenhouse.  This eliminates hot spots and shadows.  When the weather warms up, a little less light transmission will help keep your greenhouse from getting too hot.

You won’t need to be concerned about your Solexx panels breaking down in the sun.  Solexx panels are treated with a double UV inhibitor.  Solexx panels have an eight year limited warranty against ultraviolet breakdown.

Cleaning Solexx panels is an easy job.  You can rinse them or simply wipe them clean.  When you wash Solexx panels twice a year with a mild soap you will keep your greenhouse covering clean and maximize light transmission.

Solexx panels are durable and hold up well when it gets cold and even when the snow builds up.  The snow often just slides right off the Solexx panels and the panels will not yellow from exposure to the weather.

Try out one of our Solexx Greenhouses  and enjoy all its advantages!

Keep It Green And Growing With A Greenhouse

May 8th, 2006 by scott

Keep It Green And Growing With A Greenhouse

When you’re considering purchasing a greenhouse there are several things you should consider before you buy.

You will need to carefully think about the size of greenhouse.  Look at the site where you’ll put the greenhouse and this will help with the decision.  Most people outgrow there greenhouse and wish they would have purchased a bigger greenhouse. If money and space permits, purchase a bigger greenhouse than you think you will need. It is easier to make your greenhouse bigger now than later.

Will you need to heat the greenhouse?  This will depend on the different seasons you plan to use the greenhouse as well as the part of the country in which you live.  If you live in an area with cold winters, be prepared to heat your greenhouse at night and on days with dark clouds. Learn more about heating your greenhouse.

You will want some type of ventilating system in your greenhouse to help move hot air out and circulate fresh air to your plants.  You can find lots of different vents and fans out there. To be safe, ask your greenhouse sales representative which fan would be best for your greenhouse size and what they recommend.  It never hurts to ask around and get as much information as possible.

How will you water the plants and flowers in your greenhouse?  It is hard to find a “one size fits all” system when it comes to watering.  Different plants have different watering needs and seedlings need only a gentle mist.

You might want to have grow lights in your greenhouse.  These lights can be very beneficial and let you grow just about anything year-round with the right amount of heat.

Which greenhouse accessories will you need?  Potting benches, gardening carts, containers, seedling heat mats, and more can be found online at retail greenhouse sites.

How do you plan to keep your greenhouse clean?  You can avoid problems with disease when you have a clean and sanitary greenhouse.

What are you interested in growing in your greenhouse?  Are you going to grow flowers, vegetables or herbs?  Maybe you’d like to grow all three.

How will you protect your plants from pests and disease?  These can become a real nuisance if you do not know how to avoid the problem.

Be prepared to ask the right questions when you purchase a greenhouse and you will be able to keep everything green and growing. Call us and tell us your specific needs and concerns. We are happy to direct you to the greenhouse and equipment that will work best for you. 1-800-825-1925.

Are Greenhouse Pests Bugging You?

May 5th, 2006 by scott

Greenhouse pests are nothing to laugh at.  Greenhouse insects can be a very serious problem for gardeners.  You may think that because you’re gardening in a more controlled situation, bugs will not be a concern.

Because your greenhouse provides a humid and warm growing atmosphere there is every possibility that insects will delight in feeding off your beautiful flowers and plants.

There are quite a few insects that are fairly common in the greenhouse.  Keep your eyes open for white files, slugs, bloodworms, snails, aphids, mites, various kinds of flies and fungus gnats.

You should purchase pest control supplies for your greenhouse.  Our site sells not only complete greenhouse kits, but all sorts of supplies too.

For starters there are a few things you can do to less pest infestation.  Try to keep all the doors and windows shut as much as possible in the greenhouse.  This will not only help maintain your climate, but will help cut down on the bugs that can get into the greenhouse too.

Insects love wet areas so keep watering cans and jugs empty except when you are using them. You also don’t want to leave water puddles on the floor or other surfaces.

Keep your greenhouse as clean as possible.  Pests thrive in areas that are messy and have accumulated clutter.  Another thing you can do to cut down on bugs in the greenhouse is to keep the grass around the greenhouse mowed.  Pests live in weeds and will be more likely to invade the greenhouse if the lawn is not kept trimmed and weed-free.

Wikipedia also has a lot of excellent information to help you combat the pest problem.
Don’t let those greenhouse pests bug you. Check out our greenhouse pest control supplies right now!

Why Consider A Solex Greenhouse Kit?

May 3rd, 2006 by scott

Solexx greenhouses all offer twin-walled construction that is specially formulated by Adaptive Plastics, Inc. These panels diffuse light extremely well, to provide your plants with the best light possible. Solexx greenhouse covering is made of high-density double-walled polyethylene which looks similar to corrugated cardboard with the endurance of strong plastic.

The Solexx material can be easily cut with a utility knife, and it’s flexible enough to be bent around corners too. This makes it easy to cover any structure.

The Solexx covering will never yellow, mold or mildew, and the material will not scratch. This eliminates the cloudy appearance that can develop with other types of greenhouse paneling.

Solexx Greenhouses offer wide aisles to let you move comfortably. Our full length benches allow you to take advantage of all the usable space for growing.

Solexx Greenhouses are designed to give you years of service with no maintenance ever required. Just assemble the greenhouse, and start using it.

Solex Greenhouses are also completely shatter-proof to protect you and your plants against all the weather elements, including wind and snow.

Solexx Greenhouses were developed by Mike and Bev Perry, who hold degrees in Plant Science and Biology. They developed the greenhouses together after working with the corrugated plastic in several applications. After working with a product designed for tomatoes, they decided to make a greenhouse for their personal use. After their own success, they designed a greenhouse to distribute nationwide.
