Greenhouse gardening for fun and profit

June 21st, 2007 by Greenthumb

Love to garden? Can’t wait to get outside as soon as the snow and ice disappears? Need a new source of income? If the answer to these questions is “yes”, then you should consider a greenhouse.

A greenhouse can be the perfect answer for the gardener who would love to be able to grow things all year. It also can easily be turned into a greenhouse business to earn some extra money.

Greenhouses are available in all shapes and sizes and for all different kinds of gardeners. You can start small but you may not want to start too small because if you enjoy your hobby and want to expand your business venture, it won’t be long before you will need a larger greenhouse.

You could use your greenhouse to grow flowers for a farmer’s market or for a local flower shop. You may have a flair for flower arranging and could use your greenhouse flowers to design arrangements for weddings and other special occasions.

There are some greenhouse gardeners who grow flowers for dried arrangements. These arrangements can be made and sold the entire year and they can be special ordered for holidays and seasonal events.

Another possibility for the greenhouse grower is to grow and sell herbs. There are so many ways to use herbs both fresh and dried. Some herbs are especially in high demand at health food stores. It’s always good to ask around and see what is needed in your market.

If you enjoy growing vegetables you can sell them at outdoor markets. A greenhouse also comes in handy for starting vegetables early so they are ready to plant outside as soon as the weather allows. The use of a greenhouse makes it possible to have more vegetables for sale both earlier in the spring and later in the fall.

A greenhouse provides hours of indoor gardening pleasure, and in addition, can create an opportunity for you to start a greenhouse business to make some extra money.
