Greenhouse accessories are an important part of any greenhouse operation. From heaters to grow lights, there are an abundance of things you can add to your greenhouse to make your greenhouse hobby even more rewarding. One greenhouse accessory that is useful to have is a seedling heat mat.
A seedling heat mat allows you to add bottom heat under your greenhouse plants. It is especially useful for seedlings, many of which require gentle bottom heat to start or speed up the process of germination. Many seedling heat mats warm up to about 10-15 degrees above the ambient heat. If you concerned about maintaining your plants at a specific temperature, you should consider another greenhouse accessory, a heat mat thermostat.
With a heat mat thermostat, you can keep your seedlings at a set temperature. This can help to prevent your seedlings from getting overheated and the soil from drying out too quickly. You can usually hook up several heat mats to one heat mat thermostat, so you can control the temperature of several heat mats at a time.
Heat mats are especially useful in greenhouses. For instance, your greenhouse might be kept at 55 degrees but your seedlings need a temperature of 70 degrees or more for germination. With a seedling heat mat you can add the heat just where it is needed and not waste money heating the entire greenhouse.
So when selecting greenhouse accessories, don’t overlook a seedling heat mat. It will be one of your most used and useful tools!
