What to Look for in an Online Greenhouse Supplier
The Internet offers hundreds of thousands of choices in greenhouse websites, so how do you choose the right online greenhouse supplier to order from?
Google It
First, start with your favorite search engine’s result page. This is the page that displays after you type in your search terms, such as ‘buy greenhouse supplies’. (Google is the most popular search engine, so we’ll use it as an example.) The websites displayed at the top and to the right of the page are called sponsored links. This means that these companies have paid Google to display their ad when a certain search term is typed into the search box. These websites are often selling products or services, and can sometimes be a great place to start your search.

The remaining websites displayed on the page are what the search engine believes to be the best matches for what you are looking for based on your search terms. Scroll through the results and read the descriptions of each, including the website address of any entries that pique your interest.

Check the Address
Many times you can decide if you want to view a website based on the address. Shopping sites like eBay, Nextag, and Price Grabber sell products from various online stores. These websites often allow you to compare process on a single webpage, but they greatly limit your search results, only showing companies that have paid to be listed.

Browse the Store
After you have opened a few websites, browse around and check out the merchandise offered. If you plan to order often, you may want to choose a website that is easy to navigate and has a search feature for locating items quickly. Check to see if the company offers any type of guarantee, and if they provide valid contact information, should you have a problem with your order. An 800 number is a good sign that the company is large and will be available to help you with questions. Better yet, if they offer a free catalog, you can feel more comfortable that the company is here to stay.

Shop Away
Once you select a store’s shopping cart feature, you should see a padlock appear in the address bar. This lets you know that the information sent to the server is secure. Be sure to get a copy of your order verification before you close the browser window. If you experience anything out of the ordinary during your order, close out your browser and shut your computer down to be safe. You can then call the supplier directly to place your order by phone and report any unusual activity with the website.

Purchasing your greenhouse supplies online is fast and simple. Your supplies generally arrive within a couple weeks and many websites offer free shipping for orders totaling a certain amount. Once you find an online supplier with a good prices and a decent selection, you may never have to leave home for gardening supplies again.
